About the Opportunity

We are partnering with a well-established financial institution seeking an experienced Commercial Credit Officer to join its commercial lending team.

This role will play a key part in maintaining portfolio quality, supporting sound underwriting practices, and partnering with lending leadership on complex credit decisions. This is an opportunity for a credit professional who enjoys analytical work while also contributing strategically across the organization.

Position Overview

The Commercial Credit Officer serves as a subject matter expert across commercial underwriting and portfolio risk management activities. This individual will evaluate complex lending opportunities, support credit quality initiatives, and help guide junior team members while collaborating closely with commercial lending leadership.

This role offers broad visibility across lending operations and exposure to strategic decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

Commercial Credit & Underwriting

  • Analyze and underwrite complex commercial lending transactions including commercial real estate and commercial operating businesses
  • Evaluate borrower financial performance, cash flow, collateral, industry trends, and overall credit risk
  • Prepare thorough credit analyses and recommendations for lending and executive leadership review
  • Support high-level credit discussions and decision-making processes

Portfolio Management & Risk Oversight

  • Perform ongoing portfolio monitoring and annual credit reviews
  • Conduct covenant testing, trend analysis, and borrower performance evaluation
  • Support appraisal coordination and regulatory examination activities
  • Assist with maintaining portfolio quality and adherence to lending standards

Leadership & Development

  • Provide mentorship, training, and guidance to junior credit professionals
  • Assist with developing underwriting consistency and analytical best practices
  • Support process improvements and operational efficiency initiatives

Strategic Partnership

  • Partner with commercial lenders to support business development efforts
  • Participate in client discussions and lending strategy conversations as needed
  • Assist with enhancement of credit policies, procedures, and risk management practices

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field preferred
  • 7+ years of experience in commercial credit, underwriting, or credit risk management
  • Strong experience evaluating commercial and industrial lending transactions
  • Advanced financial statement analysis and cash flow modeling capabilities
  • Prior leadership or mentoring experience preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex financial information clearly
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and financial analysis skills
  • Strong organizational ability and attention to detail

Work Environment

This position is based onsite with regular in-office collaboration expected. Flexibility may be introduced over time based on business needs and performance.
