Position Overview

Our client, a well established premium consumer products manufacturer in Dallas, is creating a new Cost Accounting Manager position. This is a newly built role, and the person who takes it will own the cost accounting function end to end.
Costing at this company has historically lived with operations and product development. There is an existing costing library and a full set of BOMs in place, so this is not a build from scratch, but the company wants that foundation reviewed, validated, corrected where needed, and moved under a documented, finance owned process. The business driver is margin confidence. Leadership can close the books, but they want to be able to prove product level margin rather than estimate it. If you have ever looked at a standard cost and wanted to go to the plant floor and find out what it actually costs, this is that job. This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports, reporting to the Assistant Controller.

What You Will Own
Cost Accounting
  • Own the standard costing system for all products, materials, labor, and overhead, including periodic cost reviews and updates that keep standards aligned with actual manufacturing operations.
  • Serve as the company's subject matter expert for manufacturing costing, inventory valuation, and product costing.
  • Partner with Product Development and Engineering to review, validate, and maintain BOMs, routings, labor standards, and manufacturing assumptions, including the cost impact of design changes, engineering change orders, and new product introductions.
  • Build and document the methodologies, governance procedures, and internal controls used to develop, maintain, and approve material, labor, and overhead standards.
  • Lead the transition of costing ownership from operational teams to Finance.
Product Profitability and Margin Analysis
  • Build and maintain profitability and gross margin reporting across product line, collection, customer, channel, and manufacturing process.
  • Identify the drivers behind margin movement and bring leadership actionable recommendations, not just variances.
  • Support pricing decisions with detailed cost and profitability analysis.
  • Evaluate the financial impact of material cost changes, labor efficiency, sourcing decisions, and process improvements.
Manufacturing Cost Analysis and Reporting
  • Analyze material, labor, overhead, scrap, purchase price, and production variances, find root cause, and work with operational leaders on corrective action.
  • Develop manufacturing cost reports, dashboards, and KPIs covering labor efficiency, material utilization, scrap, rework, and overhead absorption.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning for manufacturing costs.
Inventory Accounting
  • Own inventory valuation accuracy and compliance with GAAP and internal policy.
  • Evaluate slow moving, excess, obsolete, and damaged inventory and recommend reserve levels.
  • Support physical inventory counts, cycle count programs, and reconciliations.
Close and Reporting
  • Prepare and review journal entries for inventory, manufacturing costs, reserves, and accruals.
  • Perform monthly account reconciliations and support month end and year end close.
  • Support the annual audit and internal control requirements tied to inventory and manufacturing accounting.
What You Bring to the Table
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience with significant time in manufacturing cost accounting.
  • Minimum 5 years supporting standard cost accounting in a manufacturing environment.
  • Hands on experience with inventory valuation, manufacturing variance analysis, and product costing methodology.
  • Experience with a major manufacturing ERP.
  • Advanced Excel and comfort working with large data sets.

Base salary of $130,000 to $160,000, depending on experience.
15% annual profit-sharing bonus, contingent on company performance.
Full benefits package, details available during the interview process.

Your Best Candidate Is Not on the Job Boards Right Now

The senior accountant you need is not refreshing Indeed. The HR director who could reshape your team is not polishing a resume. They are sitting at their current desks, doing their current jobs, and telling themselves this is not the right time to make a move. That hesitation is the defining feature of the 2026 […]
