Internal Audit Specialist, Plant and Operational Audits
Irving, TX (Hybrid) $135,000 + 13% Bonus Target

Our client, a Fortune 500 company headquartered in the DFW area, is bringing an internal audit function in house. This is a newly created seat, and the person who takes it gets to shape how the function runs.

This is not a SOX role. There is no prewritten control matrix waiting for you. You will walk into areas of the business you have never seen, identify the risks yourself, and build the testing approach from scratch. You will serve as Auditor-in-Charge on your own projects.

The audit scope is operational: plant safety, environmental compliance, maintenance and reliability, outage planning, and operational performance across the generation fleet.

What you'll do

• Plan and lead audits end to end, including objectives, scope, timeline, and staffing
• Identify plant risks and evaluate the controls built to mitigate them
• Design testing strategies and apply data analytics against plant systems, environmental monitoring data, and incident logs
• Conduct site walkdowns and inspections to verify that documented controls actually work in practice
• Write and present findings to plant and corporate leadership
• Partner with EHS and Operations on remediation plans and follow-up
• Coach and review the work of less experienced auditors

What you'll need

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Engineering, Business, or a related field
• 3+ years of risk-based internal audit experience, meaning you have scoped audits and built testing procedures yourself rather than executing a predefined program
• A working understanding of health, safety, and environmental risk

• $130,000 to $135,000 base with a 13% target bonus that has averaged 130 to 140% of target over the last five years
